Welcome to the Sands Wellington-Hutt Valley website.
Sands
Wellington-Hutt Valley is a voluntary organisation that provides
support and information to parents and families following the loss of a
baby or infant. Whether your baby died in pregnancy, around birth, as
an infant or toddler, and no matter how your baby died, you are
welcome and we offer our support.
We run support meetings in the community, provide individual support on the phone or in person (when we can), lend out books and resources through our small lending libraries, and hold events during Baby Loss Awareness Week and at other times throughout the year.
We provide Moses baskets, clothing and memory books to Wellington and Hutt hospitals and in the community. We also run workshops for health and caring professionals in the community.
We are affiliated to Sands New Zealand and we're part of the network of Sands groups throughout the country who support bereaved parents, families and whānau.

Andrew's memory pouch.

Andrew's memory pouch. I thought they were lost in shipment from Singapore to NZ. Don't know why I gave it to my eldest girl. So glad she had been treasuring it and taking it with her to her travels. Now it is back with me.

Mother's day. 2014
To all mothers, mother in laws, children who have lost mothers, mother's who have lost children, a special day to you all.
For a long time, Mother's day was very difficult for me. In a span of 18 months, I lost my mother unexpectedly, then I lost my son.
Thankfully, I have moved on.
On this mother's day,
there will be rejoicing,
there will be laughter.
But there will be tears,
for those who had lost
a mother,
for those who have lost
a child.
