Thursday Challenge:Money for Make a wish.

You can't see it, inside the box is MONEY, donated by generous people who have a heart of Gold for special needs kids.

Today, I met two cool guys Kelvin and Carlos at the Make a will booth at Pt Chevalier shopping mall. I told them, I will write them a post.

Without telling them my passion, I took their photos. Andrew would qualify for Make a wish, if he had not died. Had he lived, Andrew would be a very special needs child. But he died next month 25 years ago.

I hope people will donate generously to make these kids's wishes come true.

Since that first wish in 1986, Make-A-Wish New Zealand has gone from strength to strength. We will grant over 200 amazing wishes in 2014. This is not possible without over 110 wish granting volunteers throughout the country and many more community volunteers helping us at fund and friend raising event. Our small staff is based in Auckland and together we continue to bring hope strength and  joy to our wish children and their families.

Benefits of cord blood banking

Saving the stem cells from your newborn’s umbilical cord provides your family with access to these potent cells which can save and change lives, whether during childhood or later in life. This is because stem cells are the body’s master cells. They create our organs, tissues, blood and immune system, if you could turn back the clock, would you consider cord blood banking?
http://www.cordbank.co.nz/benefits/

Benefits of cord blood banking

By saving your childs cord blood stem cells at birth you are giving them life long access to these irreplaceable, powerful cells should they ever need them.

As a new parent the last thing you want to think about is your child getting sick or injured. By banking their cord blood stem cells you are giving the chance to rebuild their immune system after cancer and giving them the chance to benefit from the new therapies that use cord bood to treat brain injury, diabetes, autism and many more degenerative conditions.

Why cord blood?

Tyler and brother BenicioCord blood stem cells are the most powerful stem cells, they are the youngest and not damaged by the aging process and they are an exact match – which means they are a perfect match and won’t be rejected by your child’s system when they’re used in medical treatment.

They are there when you need them

Children who have access to their own cord blood for treatment can take advantage of therapies that cannot be carried out with sibling or unrelated cord blood.  There is no guarantee that a suitable match will be available in a public cord blood bank registry.

Lifetime odds of a stem cell transplant – 1 in 200

Cord blood is used for stem cell transplants, and you or anyone else in your family has lifetime odds of *1 in 200 of having a stem cell transplant.  On top of that, the odds are 1 in 300 that your child may have cerebral palsy, or 1 in 500 for type 1 diabetes, both of which are being treated with cord blood in clinical trials.

Coping after a loss of your child.

Miscarriage is a pregnancy that ends spontaneously before 20 weeks or when the baby's weight is under 400gms and the baby dies. About one pregnancy in four miscarries and 99% of miscarriages occur in the first 13 weeks of pregnancy. Sometimes a doctor or nurse may refer to your miscarriage as a spontaneous abortion. Abortion is the common medical name for all pregnancies that end before 20 weeks. 82% of conceptions do not result in the birth of a live baby.

A bereaved mum whose child dies is acknowledged, her child has a funeral and he has a grave where the loved ones can go to visit indefinitely. Yes, that basically sums up my lot with my late Andrew.

But a "miscarried" mum, her child is not considered a child. Often, he is not mentioned. She mourns in private. Last night, I was having dinner with two mums. Out of the blue, (I didn't even initiate it) they shared the sad news about their miscarriages.

This photo is a hibiscus in winter. When I think of all the babies that had been miscarried, they are similar to this flower. Something harsh has caused them not to develop to be the flower we expect them to be.

I made this cross stitch tapestry about twenty years ago. It says," God is love." Despite our sorrows and tribulation, God is there. I was still hurting from losing Andrew. I sat up every night to the wee hours of the morning, and made this one meter by half meter tapestry. People take months, and they could not believe I made it in a month. Today, it is my heir loom. It is unlikely I will make something like this.

This post is for all mums who are bereaved and "miscarried."

flowers of anise hyssop

The leaves and tiny lavender-blue flowers of anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) smell and taste of anise, but its square stems and opposite leaves tell you it belongs to a different family entirely, the Lamiaceae (Labiatae), or mint family. The leaves look a bit like catnip, another mint-family member, but larger. Herb lovers claim it as a culinary herb,

Oliver Wong's sad face

http://annchinchan.blogspot.co.nz/…/sad-face painting -by-oliver-wong… Oliver, your painting is just the right one for my latest book.

This painting also suits all my other books. In all 4 of them, women  have sad faces in different times of their life.

baby born to a woman with a transplanted womb -

http://www.ctvnews.ca/health/world-s-first-baby-born-via-transplanted-womb-named-vincent-1.2039202

LONDON -- For the world's first baby born to a woman with a transplanted womb -- a medical first -- only a victorious name would do.
Which is why his parents named him "Vincent," meaning "to conquer," according to his mother.
The 36-year-old Swedish mother learned she had no womb when she was 15 and was devastated, she said Saturday in an interview with The Associated Press.

This reminds me when I was in ICU with Andrew. There was this Malaysia who who had migrated to New Zealand. In Malaysia, she didn't conceive for a long time, and examination showed she had no womb.

It was a surprise to her when she conceived. She had to stay in hospital for her entire pregnancy and they had to take the baby out as soon as it was viable, about 6 months.

I wonder how they are doing now, and if the baby survived at all.

wild flowers on a grave

You never guess where I found these wild flowers.
These flowers were seen on a lawn cemetery,
Growing on a grave.
I like to think,
The Angel of the family,
Sprouted the tiny flowers,
To say, I love you.

Sam, my rainbow child.

Genesis 9:13New International Version (NIV)

13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

The bereaved parents community have adopted this rainbow and called their children who have been born after their deceased  child rainbow children.

Sam is my rainbow child. He came 7 years after Andrew. I didn't plan for him. God knew that though in my head, I didn't want any more children, in my heart I desired one.

At this Green Trail at Currumbin Sanctuary, Sam had to leap over one board to another. It was very jiggly but he managed to complete 4 courses when people did three. I was a very proud mum.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Shortly after Andrew died, we went to Goldcoast Australia. The guide at the Koala centre at Currumbin Sanctuary told the water engineer to hold the Koala and be gentle with it like a baby. My heart cried.
