Self Portait
This photo is my pride and joy. It had never been posted. I was 20 months old. It was the day my Dad flew a plane to go to study in England in 1956. The Chan Clan and the Kong Clan were in the airport to farewell him. It was a very proud moment. Dad was among the few and earliest students to go to England on a scholarship.
I was the baby in the family then. Dad's Cousin Uncle Hung Fei, tells me this when ever I see him, even when I was an adult. " I was carrying you, and when I asked you where is Dad? You answered, Ah Pa FLOOOO and you would move your hand showing how the plane flew."
I was 14 with a size 8 feet. Behind me was a clump of sugar cane. The house next door is identical to ours. A brick third class government quarter. By then, Dad had returned from England, became a teacher, a lecturer of the Sarawak Teachers' Training College, and a supervisor of schools.

This was my capping photo from Auckland University. I didn't stay for my capping in Windsor University in Canada. I rushed home.
This was less than 20 hours after we were told that Andrew was going to die. We decided that even though he was dying, he was still part of the family. We asked Paul Khor to come to the hospital to take our photos. It was the most heart wrenching photo, he was doing to die any moment. He didn't died that day. He survived for 55 days, long enough for me to love him, and for me to know why God gave him to me for such a short time. I learn when he was 40 days old that I could comfort another mum. I continue to do this. I am involved with Sands.

Fast forward many years, I was mum to 2 girls and one angel, in Singapore.
I returned to Sarawak for a visit. It was an unexpected meeting with my uncle David Kong , Mum's brother( on the right) in Kuching. He had flown from Miri.
More unexpected was meeting Mum's cousin Kong Sieng Hun. ( left) I remembered him like when I was in primary school. It was only later that I was told he held a position akin to the Mayor of Sibu. Come to think of it, I had treated him as mum's cousin. Luckily, I was not disrespectful.
Uncle David commutes between Miri and New Zealand. He is my only relative here. Blood is thicker than water.
Year 2000, we came back to NZ to tour for a month. My substitute baby.
November 16: Self Portraits Introduce yourself. I wish I could share with you my wedding photos, but I am strictly told I should not.

David Lye Morris: Hold my hand
Today was one of those days that I didn't want to go to church. My sore neck and sore lower back were playing up. Just like the Sunday when the principal of Carey College Charles and his wife Joanne http://annkitsuetchin.blogspot.co.nz/2012/07/hurting-hope-by-charles-and-joanne.html came to our church, the old man upstairs gave me a nudge to go.
I went and I was glad I did. I was blessed by David Lyle Morris and his band. They played beautifully.
He touched me when he shared that 17 months ago that his wife Liz was diagnosed with cancer. He mentioned that at times like this, all he could do was hold her hand. He spoke to me of my own afflictions, when my baby was dying, I didn't want anyone to talk to me. I just want them to hold my hand. The touch transferred the love and the care of the giver.
Since I joined the Sands, I was told that it is OK to cry and I tell newbie bereft mums to cry. In 11 days, it will be Andrew's 23 anniversary. I will cry, and I will like people to hold my hand.
Joanne Hewitt had been coming to our Church, Mt Albert Baptist Church. I hope she too will be comforted.

I told the band photos from the TV terminals. It is dark at the stage. For some unknown reasons, my camera ran out of battery, I could not take David's photo. So I got our Chinese pastor to take our photos. Then inexplicably the battery came back on when I took other photo of another occasion. The first photo of David and his drummer with our church members Martin and Joyanne.
LIFE STORY INTERVIEW CHALLENGE WEEKLY NZ 2010
A singer/songwriter who began life as the child of military parents and had lived in three countries by the age of nine has continued his international wandering as a singer and teacher on worship.
David Lyle Morris released this his 12th album in 2010. Morris called his latest album Lifestory, because the songs recorded on it chart the journey of his life over the last 22 years, “through grief and to a new birth”. Tracks on the album were recorded with different backing bands and in different countries, so a range of musical styles is heard on the album.
Lifestory was produced with the help of Integrity Music in Singapore and, says the artist, “looks back at my life, ministry and my journey of discovery in music and worship”.
Desired haven Psalm 107:28-31
Crying out forlorn in our trouble
Dig us out of our deep distress
Still the seething storm to a whisper
Raging waves of the sea are hushed

My friend Katherine's Wedding.
To my dear friend, fellow Sands Mum and Sister Katherine Thomas who is getting married today, I like to deck her house full of these beautiful North Borneo Orchids. I understand there will be more tears than most brides, there will
be tears for Emily. It's OK.
This flower is very special to me. My dad took years and years to grow a plant from a seedling someone got from the Mt Kinabalu. Without telling anyone, on her wedding day, he cut the one and only one spray and gave it to the florist to make her bouquet.
All the Sands Manukau will be watching too. Have a great day.
